Overview of Expressway in India & Construction of Bangalore- Chennai Greenfield Expressway
A one-day technical talk for the students of the Department of Civil Engineering was successfully conducted on 23rd November 2024 at KEA, Bengaluru. The session provided an invaluable opportunity for students to explore both the theoretical concepts and practical implications of the Bangalore-Chennai Greenfield Expressway project.
Technical Site Visit
The Kanva Reservoir is a pristine man-made lake situated in the Land of Seven Hills in Ramanagara. Spanning 776 hectares, it was created in 1946 by damming the Kanva River, a tributary of the Kaveri River. The primary purpose of the reservoir was to provide irrigation water for the agricultural lands in the region and supply drinking water to nearby towns and villages. Its construction was overseen by the Mysore Irrigation Department under the reign of the Maharaja of Mysore.

Site Visit to Construction Site at DSU Campus
A one-day site visit for the students of 7 th semester, Department of Civil Engineering was conducted on 13 th November, 2024 to DSU Campus, Harohalli, Kanakapur Road. The site visit was successfully completed and students got an opportunity to explore the practical conditions of the site and gained some basic knowledge about precast construction activities.

IGBC’s Green Education Conclave was organized by Green Building Congress at B M S College of Engineering, Basavanagudi, Bangalore on 13.11.2024. Faculty members (Dr. Sowmya H N and Dr. Karthik M) along with students of V semester from Department of Civil Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering had participated in the conclave.

Providing an analytical look at the changing landscape of employment options for engineering graduates, the guest lecture on " Infrastructure revolution in Precast construction: Internship and career opportunities " was quite informative.
Technical Seminar
On Tuesday, 24th September 2024, the Civil Engineering Department of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE), in collaboration with the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI), Vivechana Constructions, and the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (ACCE), hosted a half-day seminar attended by 150 students from the seventh and fifth semesters. The event focused on modern advancements in concrete technology and essential professional development skills, with two insightful sessions delivered by prominent guest speakers from the industry.
Engineers’ Day 2024
The Institution of Engineers (India), in collaboration with the department of civil engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering - Students' Chapter and BNM Institute of Technology - Students' Chapter, organized a National Seminar on the occasion of Engineers' Day 2024 on 15th of September, 2024. Site Visit to Arkavathi Reservoir & BWSSB Water Treatment Plant
A one-day site visit for the students of 4 th semester, Department of Civil Engineering was conducted on 9 th July 2024 at BWSSB 400 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Thoraikadanahalli and Arkavathi Reservoir, Kanakapura Taluk. The site visit was successfully completed and students got an opportunity to explore the working of a reservoir built for the irrigation purpose and the process involved in purification of water in the advanced Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

A one-day site visit for the students of 6 th semester, Department of Civil Engineering was conducted on 25st June 2024 at Jyothi ConMix Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant, Kumbalagodu, Mysuru Road, Bengaluru. The site visit was successfully completed and students got an opportunity to explore the working and Quality Control process in a Ready- Mix Concrete Batching Plant.

On the 12th of June, 2024, the Sukruthya Student Club of Civil Engineering department hosted a motivational talk by Ms. Sushma Lingraj on the topic, "Embracing the Change: Thriving in Times of Uncertainty" and "Harnessing the Power of Resilience: Bouncing Back Stronger Than Ever." This event was attended by the students of both the 4th and 6th semesters, providing them with invaluable insights into navigating life's challenges with resilience and authenticity.

World Environment Day
World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5th, is a significant global event orchestrated by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to raise awareness about environmental issues. This year, the Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with The Institution of Engineers (India) and the Indian Water Work Association, Bengaluru, took charge of hosting the event, focusing on the theme "Land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience."

On May 9, 2024, a significant collaboration was formalized as the Civil Engineering department of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Infrasupport Consultant Pvt Ltd. Extensive Survey Camp
Melukote in Pandavapurataluk of Mandya district, Karnataka, in southern India, is one of the sacred places in Karnataka. The place is also known as Thirunarayanapuram. It is built on rocky hills, known as Yadugiri, Yaadavagiri and Yadushailadweepa, overlooking the Cauvery valley. Melukote is about 51 km (32 miles) from Mysore and 133 km (83 mile) from Bangalore.

The National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP) aims to provide a framework for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students and faculty members. Students of PG Structural Engineering, along with Prof. Meghashree M, Assistant Professor, & Prof. Ashwini Satyanarayana, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering attended a seminar on “Classic Case Studies of Rehabilitation of Bridges” on 21 st March, 2024.
Industrial Visit
The main objective of the site visit was to bridge the gap between the industry-practical and academia and to meet the curriculum demand. The students of V Semester B.E in Civil Engineering are studying the course 21CV54 - Wastewater Management. To provide practical knowledge to the students of the ongoing wastewater treatment and management, the students were taken to the treatment.
Innovative Practices in Civil Engineering for Sustainability
Dr. H K Ramaraju welcomed Dr. Yogananda M R, Founder Director, MRINMAYEE, Bengaluru, Dr. Suma V, Vice Principal, DSCE, and participants to the FDP program. In his welcome address said that, Civil engineering is a mother of all branches and modern society demands new construction techniques & materials, so one needs to adapt to the changes with innovative practices for sustainability.
Application of Silane based compound in Stabilization of Soils
Black cotton soils contain minerals which attracts water and which in turn reduces the strength. Hence it is necessary to blend these soils with suitable stabilizer which can enhance the strength properties of soil and to establish hydrophobic in nature in soils. With this connection, current research is proposed to use silane based compound (Silica and Hydrogen based compound) as stabilizing agent.

Drought-prone districts in the eastern part of Karnataka such as Kolar and Chikkaballapur are frequently affected due to erratic rainfall and the absence of any perennial source of water for drinking purposes for the populace as well as livestock in the region. It is a long-standing demand of the people in the region that a permanent and dependable source needs to be identified and these areas are supplied with drinking water.
Sustainable Management of Water and Waste Water: Latest Developments
56 th Annual Convention-2024 hosted by IWWA Coimbatore-Centre-641 046, Tamil Nadu- (India) on 19th and 21st of January with participation of 950 delegates and around 106 research papers on “Sustainable Management of Water and Waste Water: Latest Developments” were presented. As every year students from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE) of Civil Engineering Department took part in the Annual Convention, DSCE students from Bengaluru presented review and technical Papers & Skits at the Annual Convention, Youth For Water (YFW) conducted Water, Sanitation, Health & Environment programme dated on 20/January/2024, 6:30-8:30 am at foot hills of Maruthamalai Murugan Temple,, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and empowered the localities about usage of water and water quality, health, hygiene and waste disposal.
Taranga 2024
A 3-day cultural festival 'TARANGA' was organised by Dayanananda Sagar Institutions and hosted by Dayananda Sagar University on 11th, 12th and 13th of January 2024 at DSU Campus, Harohalli, Kanakapura Road. TARANGA is a cultural and sports fest organised by DSI. More than 70 students have actively participated in the event distributed to three days. Many events such as Gajapati Garvabhanga, Film Frenzy, Treasure Hunt, Face Painting, BGMI, War of Wits, Treasure Hunt, Vayu Vivad etc., were organised for both students and faculty.

An invited talk was organised by department of Civil Engineering on the topic “Art of 3D modelling with Google Sketch up ”. The talk was delivered by Er. Jitendhar G , CADD Engineer at Jnana InfoTech. The talk was organised as a part of lecture conducted by Sukruthya Students club.

A one-day site visit for the students of 7th semester, Department of Civil Engineering was conducted on 12st December 2023 at EXCON – 2023, Largest Construction equipment exhibition in South Asia organised at Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bengaluru. The site visit was successfully completed and students got an opportunity to explore the new spectrum of construction equipment.
Alumni Meet Report 2023
Department of Civil Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering had organised online alumni meet on 09 th of December, 2023. Around Seventy alumni participated in the event starting from first batch i.e., 1979 to the recent one. Alumni members enthusiastically introduced themselves and shared their experience in the department. The event started by screening of a video about the department which had the photographs of the department since 1979 to till date. All the alumni enjoyed the video and were very happy to see their Alma Mater virtually.
National Pollution Control Day
Department of Civil Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore organized a series of seminar sessions on the occasion of “NATIONAL POLLUTION CONTROL DAY - 2023” on 4th of December 2023. Dr. H K Ramaraju, Head of Department Civil Engineering, welcomed the gathering by addressing the audience regarding air pollution, noise pollution and soil contamination and how to create awareness that helps in educating people about the sources of pollution and the steps they can take to reduce their ecological footprint.

Govt.of Karnataka constituted a committee for `Brand Bangalore. The heads of the Organization will be the Nodal officers. They will carry out the work with the support/guidance of Educational Institutions.

Parent’s Teacher Meeting-2023
The parent’s teacher meeting was conducted for the 1st year students of the Civil Engineering Branch of batch 2022-2023 on 11-3-2023 at 2:30pm to 4:00pm. Dr. H. K. 55th Annual Convention-2023 hosted by IWWA Pune & VENUE - MESSE GLOBAL PUNE,133, Magarpatta, Next to Magarpatta city, Hadapsar, Pune-411013 on 20th and 22nd of January,2023 with participation of 820 delegates and around 51 research papers were presented. Sewage treatment or (domestic waste water treatment, municipal waste water treatment) is a type of waste water treatment which aims to remove contaminants from sewage to produce an effluent that is suitable for discharge to the surrounding environment or an intended reuse application ,there by preventing water pollution from raw sewage discharges.

A site visit was arranged for 6th semester students of Civil Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering on 24th June 2022 at a construction site at Nelamangala. About 160 students have participated in the visit. The project was handled by Mahijaa Consultants. Project is a villa constructed using the alternative construction techniques. The villa is constructed near Nelamangala.

Report on World Environment Day 2022, Dept. of Civil Engineering, DSCE, Bangalore -78 was celebrated on 06-06-2022 at The Institution of Engineers (INDIA) Karnataka State Centre, Bengaluru on a theme” Only One Earth”. India is aspiring to become 5 trillion-dollar economy by 2025. After ensuring toilets for all under SBM 1.0 Govt. of India has taken up the massive program of providing functional tap to every rural house hold in the country by 2024, under” Jal Jeevan Mission”. In the first year 20 million water tap connections were provided. The target is to provide 160 million tap connections. Development of drinking water source, recharge of resources, ensuring the continuous availability is the thrust of the mission.

Clean water is an increasingly scarce resource due to inconsistent or irresponsible governance, overconsumption and pollution. “Water is a systemic risk, which is often poorly understood and disregarded until there's a disaster." Water consumption worldwide has been increasing by about 1 percent every year since the 1980s, and will continue an upward march till 2050. By then, the global water demand will be around 30 per cent above today’s levels. Already, over two billion people live in countries with high water stress, and about four billion experience severe water scarcity at least one month every year.

Field Visit PG- Structural Engineering
Students were taken to visit a Major bridge on major district road at KM 16.400 near Mahadevapura in Srirangapatna Taluk, Mandya District. The Planning and Road Asset Management Centre (PRAMC) of Public works, ports and inland water transport department was conducting the visual inspection of the bridge. Students got the exposure to the procedure used in the visual inspection, they interacted with the engineers of PWD at the site and as well as the engineers involved in the inspection work. Students conducted Non Destructive Tests on the bridge and learnt practical application of the experiments learnt during their course.

A Report of 54th Annual Convention of INDIAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION & Award received by two of our students & Review Paper presented by teachers according to theme of the Convention
54 th Annual Convention-2022 hosted by IWWA Lucknow & Prayagraj Centre, Lucknow226010 (India) on 8th and 9th of January with participation of 650 delegates and around 40 research papers were presented. As every year students from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE) of Civil Engineering Department took part in the Annual Convention, and received awards as Youth Ambassadors of IWWA for their extensive work in the water and sanitation sector. The vision of IWWA is to create a participative awareness and build the leaders in the water, health, sanitation and environment sector. Because of anthropogenic activities and other reasons, ground and surface water quality are deteriorated. Conservation of this with proper waste management and effluent wastewater treatment is important to protect the environment.

A one day site visit for the students of 5th semester, Department of Civil Engineering was conducted on 15th December, 2021 to Divyashree Technolpolis located near Marathalli, Bengaluru. The visit was scheduled in three batches i,e 10.00am for 5th A, 11.45am for 5th B And 2.00pm 5th C. around 175 students from 5th semester have participates in the site visit. The site visit was successfully completed and students got an opportunity to explore the practical conditions of the site and gained some basic knowledge about construction activities.

A one-day industrial visit was planned for Civil Engineering students of 3rd Semester on 6th and 7th December 2021. A group of fifty-four students on each of the days, accompanied by two faculty members reached the Plant site at about 10:00 a.m.
Upon reaching the site, Security personal gave safety equipment of all the students and divide the students in to 2 groups to follow the covid guidelines and Er. Bharati, QT & QC Engineer of the Plant gave an introduction about the unit and some safety guidelines to be followed in the plant

As a preliminary understanding of the sewage treatment plant our Field Engineer, Mr. Tejaswi, gave us the above specified information about the plant. Then we were taken to the main office building of the plant, it houses several rooms pertaining to the working of the plant. The most important one being the control room which houses the entire digital controlling system of the plant which runs on Supervisory control and data acquisition, which is a system of software and hardware elements that allows industrial organizations to directly interact with devices such as sensors, valves, pumps, motors, and more through human-machine interface (HMI) software.

This is the reason for all the aspiring entrepreneurs with great pleasure from Civil Engineering Department and IEDC conducted the Entrepreneurship Awareness Program to facilitate discussion between young entrepreneur and industry experts who have huge experience and impart knowledge to the students by throwing the light on different phases of being an entrepreneur.

FIELD VISIT TO SARAKKI LAKE
The Department of Civil Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE), Bengaluru organized a field Visit to Sarakki Lake , J.P.Nagar Bangalore, Karnataka on 7th February, 2019.
The field trip was organized for the benefit of 210 Second year civil engineering students i.e.,4 th semester A, B and C section students. The visit provided an opportunity to students to get an exposure of latest SBR technology used in wastewater Technology for susstaible lake restoration and practical experience which facilitated them to enhance their skills in restoring water bodies for habitations.
During site visits we explained about Baseline surveys to be carried out for restoration of Lake, desilting details of lakes and its benefits, Wetland construction, Sequential batch reactor construction in wastewater treatment plant.
