A webinar has been organized on 13-6-2020 for 6th semester students. The speaker is Mr.P.Kumar, CEO & Director, VRM Energy Consultancy Services Pvt.Ltd. ,Chennai. Around 100 students have joined the webinar. Webinar was informative and students have actively interacted with the speaker at the end of the session. Dr. DhanaLakshmi is the faculty co-ordinator for this event.

A webinarwas arranged by EEE department on ‘Electrical Switch gear and its Applications’ in association with’ Universal Power Controls’.
UNIVERSAL POWER CONTROLS is professionally run company with 30 years of experience in Manufacturing of Electrical Control Panel .They Manufacture Panels like Power Control Centre PCC, Motor Control Centre MCC, Automatic Power Factor Correction Panels APFC, Mimic, Automation, and Custom Built Panels.
Around 80 students have participated in the webinar. The webinar was for the duration of 2 hours. The topics covered during the session were.
- Basics of Electrical included topics covering AC principles, Electrical symbols used in industries, 1 phase & 3 phase, how to read drawing, different types of contactors, NO-NC Auxiliary Contacts, Timers, Push buttons, CT’s etc.
- Demonstration of Semi-& Fully Automatic Star Delta : Starting of Motor, Control Circuit Power Circuit, troubleshooting & Selection of components.
- Demonstration of Remote On &Off : of Motor, Control & Power Wiring.
- APFC Panels: Construction of Automatic Power Factor Correction Panels, Power factor improvement.

Online quiz conducted on 23rd May,2020
Electrical and Electronics Engineering department had conducted an online quiz and certification program “High Voltage Engineering” on 23rd may 2020, which helped students to test and enhance their knowledge in High Voltage Engineering. This event was conducted by A M Nagaraj & Vidya M. The quiz contained with 20 MCQ questions which has been created using Google forms.
A total of 557 students from various engineering colleges in and out of Karnataka have participated. E-Certificates were given to those who have scored 60% and above. There were 51 students from other states and 505 students from various Engineering colleges of Karnataka.

Online Parents – Teachers meeting was held on 16/05/2020 . Professor & HoD Dr. P. Usha has welcomed the parents and explained about Vision, Mission of E&EE department. She has also detailed about the digital interactions made by E&EE faculty with students. The issues discussed were online classes held during lockdown, syllabus coverage, students’ academic progress. The faculty members attended the meeting were Dr. Balaji N , Dr. P B Savitha and Mr. Ganesh G C, Mrs. Tanuja H. Mrs. Tanuja was the coordinator of this event.

Technical talk on “LEDs and their applications”
Technical talk on “LEDs and their applications” was delivered by Dr. B K Chandrashekar, Managing Committee Member, ILSE -KSC on 05/03/2020. The applications of LEDs were explained in detail. The applications include aviation lighting, automotive headlamps, advertising, general lighting, traffic signals, camera flashes, lighted wallpaper, horticultural grow lights, and medical devices. The talk was very informative and interesting.
Engineering conclave was conducted on 07/03/2020. The invited industry expert was Mr.Gokulmuthu Naryanaswamy. Mr.Gokulmuthu Narayanaswamy works as a Senior Principal Software Engineer at Itron, one of the world’s leading provider of Smart Metering solutions.
He has more than 20 years of experience in the software industry. He has been working on a wide range of technologies like compilers, embedded systems, distributed computing, highly available and scalable systems, VoIP, web and mobile applications. At Itron, he drives the development of Edge Computing infrastructure and applications. He also manages some components of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
There was an elaborate discussion on the curriculum with him. Few suggestions given by him are to include more lab / hands on session than theory classes, to arrange workshops for few courses and for electives and for the numerical based subjects exclusively use modern tool such as MATLAB, PSPICE ,PSACAD, etc
Women’s day was celebrated in the department on 09/03/2020, organized by members of IEEE-PES student chapter. Few events conducted were quiz, riddles.
Open seminar was given by Mr Suresh Babu on 13-03-2020. He is research scholar of E&EE department R&D center. He is pursuing his research work under the guidance of Dr. K.Shanmukha Sundar. The title of his research work is ‘ Automatic Generation Control For Grid Stabilization in Coordination with Integrated Renewable Energy Sources’. Few faculty and PG students of E&EE department have attended the seminar.
All the E&EE department faculty are actively interacting with students on line from 18th March . Most of the faculty are using 'zoom app'for online classes. Sharing the links of videos, materials and ppt through 'Google classroom'. The details of this is available

Two student groups of E&EE , have been selected for quarter finals round of AICTE, DST & Texas Instruments-" India Innovation Challenge Design Contest 2019(IICDC)", Anchored by IIM. Both the groups have received components from Texas Instruments to build the product.

The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has organized AICTE sponsored two week FDP on “Smart Technologies – ICT, Automation and Power Electronics Applications in Integration of Renewable Energy Sources and Smart Grid” from January 20th to February 1st 2020. There were 45 registrations and participants were from Chickmagalur, Ram Nagaram, Chikkaballapur, and from many colleges of Bangalore.
