DEPARTMENT NEWS

Department of Mathematics conducted One Day Workshop entitled “Applications of Biostatistics” on 26 th February, 2020. Speaker provided hands-on training on the various tests to be adopted for qualitative and quantitative biological data and explained when and where to apply the exact statistical techniques namely correlation, regression, chi square, t- test and ANOVA.


Department of Mathematics, DSCE conducted One day workshop on Quality Research Publications and Patenting on 24th January 2020. This workshop mainly focused on how to bring the quality publications.


Two-day workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics: the future” was conducted on 25th & 26th November 2019. The workshop focused on how the data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies are transforming the organizations, industries and society in general & it’s impact in future.


Department of Mathematics conducted “NUMBER NINJA COMPETITION 2019” on 4th November 2019. Under this competition, an event was conducted called Number Game which was a team event. In ‘Number Ninja’, ‘Number’ means mathematical puzzles and ‘Ninja’ means who could solve problems quickly.


MATRIX 2019 was held on 23rd and 25th of September for First semester students. The events on day 1 were ‘Phone OO Friend’, ‘Avengers Assemble’ and ‘Treasure Hunt’. On 25th , an event ‘Hunky Brains’ was conducted where the students unlocked their knowledge at the speed of thought.


Department of Mathematics conducted Faculty Development Program on Recent Trends in Applied Mathematics with Engineering Application on 21-23 August 2019


Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, DSCE, in association with IWSA, Bangalore Chapter, celebrated the 24th International women’s day on 21st March 2019 to honour womanhood and acknowledge all women in the world for making this world a better place for everyone to live in.


On behalf of Dayananda Sagar College of engineering, Department Of Mathematics conducted ISR activity for Primary government school students at Sarakki Bangalore on 8th March 2019. Objectives of the event are to encouraging the school level students to take up some interest in Science and technology for the society and environment.


National Science Day was celebrated in the Department of Mathematics on 28th February and 1st March 2019 to commemorate the day on which Sir C V Raman discovered the Raman Effect. A seminar competeion was organized for First year students where they were suppose to give a 10 minute presentation on “MISSION GAGANYAAN 2022: DIFFICULTIES & CHALLENGES”. Approximately 15 teams registered for the event and best 3 teams were given the chance to make a presentation on 1st march in front of the eminent personality, a Padma bhushan and Padmashree Prof K S valdiya.


Department Of Mathematics organized a three day Lecture series on Fluid Mechanics from 23rd to 25th January 2019. Lecture series mainly focused on Basics of Fluid Mechanics, Navier Stokes equation, Conservation of Momentum, conservation of energy equations, Analytical methods used to solve Fluid mechanics problems, Differential Transform, Shooting method and Thompson method.


The Department of Mathematics and department of MCA, DSCE, in association with DERBI has organizing a two day IP Immersion Program from 19 th to 20 th March 2018.

On Day 1, Mr Arun Subramanian, from Formulate IP, gave a presentation on different aspects covering IP, Trademark, copyright, Patents: patents procedure, analytics & strategies, IP Commercialization tools & Strategies. The session was attended by 24 shortlisted teams that comprises of a faculty supervisor and a student.

Second day of the workshop focused on one-to-one discussion with each team for an hour each, focusing on the identification of the projects that can go for filing the patents or business commercialization. There were four experts, Mr Neeraj Gupta, Mr Arun Subramanyam, Ms. Trishala Joseph and Mr. Deepak Kumar.


A five day faculty development program was conducted by the Departments of Basic Science from 26/06/2018 to 30/06/2018 to enhance the teaching skills and methodical training for the faculty.

Department of Mathematics arranged a talk on “Optimization” by Ms. Ankita Gupta, Senior Software Engineer in Advanced Technology Lab at Samsung Research Institute, Bangalore as first session on 30/06/2018.Ms. Ankita delivered the concept ofOptimization in a user friendly language that was Well received by the faculty of all streams.The next session was addressed by Dr. B. R. Srinivas, Professor at NMKRV College on “Delayed Differential Equations”.it is a new subject Which he dealt with such an expertise that the Suggestion was to introduce it to engineering students.


Department organized one day workshop on “ Fast computational Technique” by FACE on 16 th October 2018 in the Seminar hall, DSCA for the first year students. It was an interactive session by Mr Anand from FACE who focused on various types of Mathematic and out of box thinking problems. Around hundred enthusiastic students participated and they gave excellent feedback.


Matrix-2K18 is organized by Department Of Mathematics on 23 rd and 24 th of November 2018.
Day-1: On 23 rd the day -1 Fallowed by Technical Talk “ Cyber Security”, given by Mr. Kumar, training expert Dell, IANT, Bangalore. We also conducted “As You Like It’(QUIZ), and “Treasure Hunt” game on the same day.
Day-2: We have conducted “Morphed”(Rubik’s Cube) and “Jenga”(Building blocks) creative activities for 1 st and 3 rd semester Students and students won prizes in all the events .


The Department of Mathematics organized one day training program on “fast computational techniques” for first year BE students, on 9th Feb 2018.

The trainer Mr Satya from Focus Academy for Career Enhancement (FACE) focusedon Basic Speed mathematics which enhances the computational efficiency of students. The students were trained to

  • Learn to maintain a balance between accuracy and computational speed.
  • To approach aptitude questions from answer options eventually minimizing time consumed to solve a problem.
  • To overcome the fear of numbers. Instead, will develop love for numbers.
  • Be strong in the fundamentals of computation

The Department of Mathematics conducted a two-day Faculty Development Program on “Graph Theory and Its Application” on 19th&20thDecember2017.This workshop focused on fundamentals and application of graph theory in various research areas.

Faculty from various discipline attended the workshop. We had 30 participants from DSI and 32 faculty participants from other institutions.


The fest “MATRIX 2K17” was organized by the Department of Mathematics for the students of B.E., 1st and 2nd year on 3rd& 4th November 2017.

The fest was a huge success with the combined participation of more than 300 students in 4 events which were held within the span of two days.


Mr Umesha V (NSS Coordinator) coordinated from Mathematics department with IS HOD, for the successful conduction of Blood Donation Camp on 9th November 2017.


“National Commission for Women” activity

The national Commission for Women (NCW), with a view to ensure adherence to the Constitutional and Legal requirements, decided to inter alia launch a nationwide programme for generating awareness about legal rights of women.

The Departments of Mathematics and MCA, under the aegis of DC-WEST, organized the online multiple choice type college level competition on 16th& 17th November 2017 towards Institutional social responsibility. Approximately 876 students participated in the event. 7 Students bagged prizes to the best scoring students as per the norms mentioned by National Commission for Women.


Origami workshop at FAME India

It was indeed a privilege for all the faculty members of Mathematics department and students of second year, B.E. students to get an opportunity to visit “FAME (Foundation for Action, Motivation and Empowerment) India” a school for differently abled children, at Jayanagar, Bangalore on 26th October 2017.

An Origami workshop was conducted for them giving them a visual exposure to 7 different shapes like Plane, Fish, Pyramid etc., along with group interactions. Every child was enthusiastic and curious to learn new things.


Kalarnava Cultural Fest

Kalarnava'17, the Cultural fest for First year BE students was held on 26th September 2017 at PremachandraSagar Auditorium. The Fest was held in the gracious presence of Dr. C P S Prakash, Principal, DSCE, Dr. Ramesh Babu, Vice Principal, and DSCE, HODs of various Departments, Faculty members and students.
Department has came out with the second issue of the Newsletter “ANK" which was released on 26th September 2017 on the occasion KALARNAVA -cultural fest for the first year B.E. students.


National Science Day

On the occasion of National Science Day Department has released second volume of Department’s Newsletter “ANK”, which displayed the activities and achievements of the department.
