Critical Thinking, Out of Box Thinking, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Department of Chemistry, organized an "Invited Talk" on Critical thinking, Out of box thinking, Innovation and entrepreneurship” for first-year B.E Engineering students on 19 th December 2023 at AV auditorium by Mr. Dhiraj A Rao, B.Tech (E&C) under Institution’s Innovation council (IIC) program. The conducted talk is supported by Dr. B. G. Prasad, Principal, DSCE.

Seminar Competition-2023

The Seminar Competition-2023 was conducted by the departments of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics department for the first year students on 29 th November 2023. Around 45 students had participated in the event. The objective of the competition was to provide the students a platform to showcase their innovative prowess in exploring the diverse aspects of scientific advancements on the theme "Emerging Trends in Science and Technology".

Nonlinear optics: Theory and Applications

The Department of Chemistry, organized an "Invited Talk" on “Nonlinear optics: Theory and Applications” for first-year B.E Engineering students on 15 th November 2023 at AV auditorium by Dr. Reji Philip, Professor, Light and Matter physics, RRI, Bengaluru, under Institution’s Innovation council (IIC) program. The conducted talk is supported by Dr. B. G. Prasad, Principal, DSCE. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. A. R. Ashwatha (Dean Academics-DSCE), Dr. K. S Anantharaju, Prof. & HOD of Chemistry. The event co-ordinators Dr Hemavathi B, Dr. Vidya G and Dr. Sennappan M, supervised the session.

Discovering Discipline and Power of Practice

The Department of Chemistry, organized an "Invited Talk" on “Discovering Discipline and Power of Practice” for first-year B.E Engineering students on 25th July 2023 at AV auditorium by Mr. Karthik Basavaraju, Leadership program leader under Institution’s Innovation council (IIC) program. The conducted talk is supported by Dr. B. G. Prasad, Principal, DSCE. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. A. R. Ashwatha (Dean Academics-DSCE), Dr. K. S Anantharaju, Prof. & HOD of Chemistry and Dr. Dinamani M. (Associate Prof.).

Persuading and aligning the younger minds about material characterisation is very crucial. This could be achieved through organizing educational, training and orientation programs. In this regard, Department of chemistry organized an Invited Talk on the Hydrogen Energy: Methods of Production, storage and Uses, on 30th June, 2023 at CD sagar auditorium by Dr. A Govindaraj, Principal Research Scientist, SSCU, IISc.

Webinar on Nano Carbon Biosensors

Webinars play an important role keeping the younger minds updated with the recent trends in any particular area of research. This could be achieved through organizing educational, training and orientation programs. In this regard, Department of Chemistry organized a webinar entitled, “Nano Carbon Biosensors” on 12th August 2023 at 2.30 pm IST by Prof. B. Ramachandra Bhat, Professor, Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal.

Industrial Visit to U R Rao Satellite Centre, Indian Space Research Organization

Department of Chemistry from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering arranged one day Industrial Visit for first semester engineering students to U R Rao Satellite Centre, Indian Space Research Organization., Mission Infrastructure Documentation and Outreach Group (MDOG) office is located on Old HAL Airport road, Bengaluru-560017, dated 11th August 2023. The visit was co-ordinated by Dr. Dinamani M., Dr. Surendra B. S., Faculty members, Department of Chemistry.

Emerging Science and Technology

The Department of Chemistry, organized a "Seminar Competition" for first-year B.E Engineering students on 31st January 2023. The event was graced by the presence of Dr.Suma V, Vice Principal of DSCE, Dr. K.S Anantharaju, Prof. & HOD of Chemistry and First year Coordinators Dr. C.M Joseph, Prof. & HOD of Physics, Dr. Radha Gupta, Prof & HOD of Mathematics. The event was coordinated by Dr. Uma B., Faculty member of Chemistry Department.

Industrial Visit to M/s Pyro eco-green Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

Department of Chemistry from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering arranged one day Industrial Visit for first semester engineering students to M/s Pyro eco-green Technologies Pvt. Ltd., having its Head Office at Plot no. Q-2, 1st cross KSSIDC Industrial Estate II stage, Kanakapura, Bangalore dated 18th January 2023.

Project Model Exhibition

DSCE Open Day-2022, was conducted on 24th of June 20222 to encourage the students to exhibit their inventions and innovation to open public. Esteemed Chief Guest Sri.Shyamakrishna Kattepur, Global Vice President-ABB, Sri. Galiswamy, Secretary DSI, Ms.Tintisha H Sagar, Joint secretary DSI, Sri. Nishan H Sagar, Joint secretary DSI, Dr. CPS Prakash, Principal DSCE graced the occasion of Open day.

Digital Poster Designing Competition

The Department of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics organized a "Digital Poster Designing Competition" for first-year B.E engineering students on 3rd June 2022. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. CPS Prakash, Principal of DSCE, Dr. K.S Anantharaju, HOD of Chemistry and Dr. C.M Joseph, HOD of Physics.

Motivational Session Report

The Department of Chemistry organized a motivational session on the topic "Sow a character, reap a destiny". The event was graced by Mrs. Sushma Lingraj, who is a renowned counsellor, motivational speaker and life coach. The event was coordinated by Prof. K S Ananthraju, Dr.Uma B, Faculty, Department of Chemistry, Arjun Chauhan and Giri Prasath 1st-year students of the Department of EEE.

Faculty Development Programme on Recent Advances in Chemical, Biological and Material Science (RACBMS-2022)

The Faculty Development Programme (FDP) intends to provide up-gradation of knowledge, skill and intends to provide opportunities for induction training to teachers employed in various disciplines including Engineering & Technology. As a Step towards such encouragement, Department of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Chemistry jointly organized a Faculty development programme on “Recent Advancement in chemical, biological and material science, from 14th to 18th March-2022 which was conducted in blended mode.

Induction Program-2022

The Induction programme conducted for the First year students of Engineering, DSCE from 24th January to 01st of February 2022, on virtual mode, bridged the gap that exists between the knowledge of students at the entry-level and the course requirements towards the beginning of the academic year. The programme familiarize the students with their roles in numerous aspects of academic practices, off-campus activities, placements, entrepreneurship, provided a broader view of life, music, dance, art & theatre, Yoga and sports, which motivated them to perform well in their chosen branch.

Webinar entitled “National Science Day”

The National science Day which is celebrated to mark the invention of the Raman Effect and it is celebrated throughout the country by the young science enthusiast. Encouragement and persuasion of the younger minds to get inclined towards understanding science and prod them to develop interest towards science is very important. This could be achieved through organizing educational programs.

“Eco-Friendly Technologies for Surface Treatment and Metal Finishing”

Persuading the younger minds to broaden the knowledge of improved technology without compromising the nature is essential and would also make them aware of more sustainable processes. This could be achieved through organizing educational, training and orientation programs.As a step towards such encouragements, Department of Chemistry, organized a webinar entitled “Eco-Friendly Technologies for Surface Treatment and Metal Finishing” on 17th February 2022, 4 PM. The event hosted a talk by Mr. Rajeeva Deekshit, CEO and Founder Pyro Eco-Green technology Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru.

“STRATEGY FOR INTRAPRENEURSHIPS, ENTREPRENEURSHIPS AND STARTUPS”

Inclining the younger minds for setting their own entrepreneurial is demanding to enhance the organizing and managerial skills and also would solve an unemployment issues. This could be achieved through organizing educational, training and orientation programs. As a first step of such encouragements, Department of Chemistry with the co-ordination of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, organized a webinar entitled “STRATEGY FOR INTRAPRENEURSHIPS, ENTREPRENEURSHIPS AND STARTUPS” on 8th January 2022, 11 AM. The event hosted a talk by Mr. Jai Deo Tiwari, L&T Technology Services, Bengaluru.

Webinar entitled on “Fight Your Fright”

Department of Chemistry, organised a webinar entitled on “Fight Your Fright” on 20th of Sep, 11.00 AM. The event hosted a talk by Miss. Sushma Lingraj, Student Councillor, DSCE. To be an effective public speaker, students need to understand a variety of elements, which include use of appropriate tone, natural gestures and effective eye contact. If these are obstructed by stage fright, all of their hard work might feel for naught. Our speaker motivated the students to voice on their fear, its identification and suggested on overcoming challenges.

Webinar entitled on ‘Resource Recycling and Application of Nanomaterials for Waste Management’

The webinar on ‘Resource Recycling and Application of Nanomaterials for Waste Management’ was conducted on 18th September 2021 at 10AM by Department of Chemistry. Dr. J. Manjanna, Professor and Chairman, Rani Channamma University, Belgavi was our honorable speaker. He provided a stepwise guideline of resources recycling and experimental details on how commercially important metals Mn, Co and Li from cathode materials of spent Li-ion batteries can again recycled. His talk was also based on nuclear waste disposable management and removal of toxic cancerous dyes from water samples.

Engineering Conclave 2021

Placing our students and empowering them with the present scenario of employment requirements is significant. For this, bridging the gap between industries and institutions will enable students in taking up real-time projects. Engineering conclave would help in reaching out this, wherein, the involvement of an industry expert in curriculum designing lead to understand and inculcate the required components for industry. The Engineering conclave was held on 7th August 2021at 10 AM virtually on the Zoom platform, from the Department of Chemistry to discuss autonomous syllabus and scheme of I/II SEM Engineering Chemistry (19CH1ICCHY/19CH2ICCHY), Engineering Chemistry Lab (19CH1ILCHY/19CH2ILCH), Institutional Elective VI SEM Characterization Techniques for Engineering Materials (17CM6IECTQ) and for VII SEM Chemistry of Engineering Materials (IECM76).

Our respected Principal Dr. C.P.S. Prakash addressed and highlighted the importance of this event to address some of the major Engineering challenges relevant to society as well as the country and to suggest suitable Engineering solutions. Dr. K.S. Anantharaju, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry also highlighted the importance of focussed efforts of the department towards features of scheme and syllabus, publications, patents, projects and webinars. An industry expert Dr. Shyam S Rao, Executive Vice President & strategic business unit head of the industrial ceramic division, CUMI, India assessed the syllabus and scheme. He also appreciated the rejuvenating curriculum which we were following all these days.

The valuable Outcomes of Engineering conclave 2021 includes:

1. Syllabus and schemes were analyzed by industry expert meeting and concluded that syllabus is broad and meets industry demands.
2. Raman spectroscopy methods and its applications were needed to include in current schemes.
3. Prepared schemes and experiments, nurture the research culture and innovative culture. This filled the gap and graduates can be considered as a developed skilled workforce.
4. Schemes and syllabus are concise, sustainable and ability to provide knowledge to develop novel technology.
5. A new technology polymer for 3D printing and replacement of polarograpy via amperometric methods was highly appreciated.

Department of Chemistry, organized a webinar entitled “Thermochemical Energy Storage-system Design and Performance” on 12th June 2021, 11 AM. The event was hosted talk by Dr. Ashish Shukla, Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technologies, (CREST), Loughborough University, Leicestershire, UK.

Webinar entitled on “Introduction to Electrochemical Parameters for Construction of Sustainable Fuel Cells”

Webinar by Dr. Jayasmita Jana, Postdoc, University of Ulsan, South Korea Knowledge of technical importance, challenges and overcoming methods are crucial for budding students. This would gradient them towards the application oriented perspective. With this objective, as the basics of electrochemistry is the part of curriculum, a webinar entitled “Introduction to Electrochemical Parameters for Construction of Sustainable Fuel Cells” on 4th June 2021, 1.00 PM was organized by Department of Chemistry and the event hosted a talk by Dr. Jayasmita Jana, Postdoc, University of Ulsan, South Korea. The resource person has guided the implications of the basics of electrochemistry in constructing sustainable fuel cells and the parameters upon which the efficiency of the same is dependent one.

Department of Chemistry, organised a webinar entitled on “Nanoscience and Nanotechnology” on 28th of May, 11.00 AM. The event hosted a talk by Dr. R. Hari Krishna, Assistant Professor, RIT, who spoke on the advancements of nanotechnology and explained how it has a significant qualitative impact on science, and has become one of the top R&D priorities. The speaker illustrated examples where the Nanoscience unique phenomena at the molecular scale can reshape the world around us.

Department of Chemistry, organised a webinar entitled on “Art of Mind Management and Emotional Balance” on 20th of May 2021 3.00 PM, our respected Principal Dr.C.P.S. Prakash addressed the students and motivated them to attend such events. Dr. K.S. Anantharaju, First year coordinator, coordinated the event. The event hosted a talk by Sri.Vallabha Chaitanya Dasa, a motivational speaker from Youth empowerment club of ISKON, which helped the students to overcome the negativity caused due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
